A TRILOGY OF SIMPLE ITALIAN STAYS: THREE CITIES, THREE HOTELS, ITALY ON A BUDGET

Standard

ROME: Hotel California

California Hotel Rome is an older, somewhat dated property, and the elevator feels tired and can be unreliable at times. That said, the rooms are clean and functional, and the included breakfast—coffee and a light bite—is sufficient to start the day. The front desk can get busy, but the staff remain friendly and accommodating. The hotel’s biggest advantage is its excellent location, just a two-minute walk from Roma Termini Station, making it a very convenient base for getting around the city.

CIVITAVECCHIA: Hotel de la Ville

I had a charming and very pleasant stay at Hotel de la Ville. The location is extremely convenient—right next to the train station and just a few minutes from the city center. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and they even arranged private transportation to the port, which made everything stress-free. I truly enjoyed my stay and would happily recommend this hotel to travelers looking for a comfortable and convenient base close to the port.

VENEZIA: Hotel Rosa Salva

Rosa Salva Hotel is a small, clean, and pleasant 3-star hotel located just a few steps from Piazza San Marco, making it an excellent base for exploring Venice. The hotel is simple and no-frills but well maintained and comfortable. There’s no restaurant on site, but a lively bakery in the same building more than makes up for it, offering delicious food and a great atmosphere. Rooms are standard but comfortable, with notably strong shower pressure. Reception is staffed 24/7, and the team is exceptionally friendly, chatty, and helpful, adding a warm, welcoming touch to the stay.
